2006 AWARD WINNER - JIM GROBE
WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY

 

Jim Grobe, head football coach at Wake Forest University, is in his sixth season at Wake Forest. His Demon Deacons finished their regular season with 11 wins - a school record which included a perfect 6-0 road record.

The Deacs earned their first ever trip to a BCS Bowl Game, playing the University of Louisville in the FedEX Orange Bowl.

A native of Huntington, West Virginia, Grobe earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Virginia in 1975 and earned a Master's degree in guidance and counseling from The University of Virginia in 1978. He played middle guard at Virginia 1973 and linebacker in 1974. He was a two-year starter and was named Academic All-ACC.

 


Prior to coaching at Wake Forest, he was coach of the Ohio Bobcats from 1995 -2000 where he led Ohio to an 8-3 record in 1997 and a 7-4 record in 2000.

His Wake Forest team won the ACC football championship in 2006 by defeating Georgia 9-6 in the conference title game. He was unanimously selected as the 2006 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year.

Grobe and his wife, Holly, have two sons, Matt and Ben. Matt is a 1995 graduate of Marshall who works as the golf sales coordinator at Lake Las Vegas Resort in Las Vegas. He and his wife, Melanie, have a daughter, Mackenzie (8), and a son, Cameron (4). Ben graduated from Ohio University in 2002 with a degree in health care administration. He currently resides in Charlotte and works for Jefferson-Pilot Financial.
